However it does lack some features of the others like hop degradation, the calender in Beersmith, and the scaling factor for hops from homebrew to pro scale. It is much more user friendly than either Promash or Beersmith. Really like that it automatically adjusts the hop amount to keep the IBU contribution the same based of what the AA is of the hop I’ve got in stock. Or perhaps guide them with the best hops to use Ive come across a couple such as iBrewMaster and BeerSmith. As a homebrewer I went for the newer Beer Tools Pro. I also use inventory heavily and count on it to tell me what I’ve got in stock and what I need to pick up in order to make certain beers. The Brew Builder uses the Tinseth method of calculating the IBUs, and uses the exact formula for determining the IBUs. Beersmith just plain knows more about your system than the Brew Builder does, which makes a difference. Can’t recall exactly what it was but I think it was how things were arranged around recipes and batches where I was used to BeerAlchemy’s ways which made my normal work flow difficult. Probably just because I got used to how it works but I had a hard time with BeerSmith when they came out with the 2nd version that ran on Mac. iBrewMaster is a full functioned application for home brewers to manage the entire brewing process. When I started brewing it was the only real option that ran on the Mac and would sync with the iPad. I use BeerAlchemy on the iPad/iPhone and the software for the Mac.
